Tower Drop rides are possibly one of the best ideas the theme park industry ever thought up. They take up very little ground space so practically every park can fit one in
and they continue to deliver the same thrill to the rider time and time again. The idea of the ride is simple you go up, wait at the top for a few seconds and then drop back down again, fast! What really creates the thrill though is sitting at the top waiting to drop, not knowing exactly when its going to happen until suddenly you hear the click of
the carriage release and its all over.
Another really simple idea that makes another great ride. Rush is basically a big swing and as we all loved swings when we were young, why shouldn't we all when were old? Especially
when its a giant, air powered swing that can swing you so far back your basically looking vertical at the ground with only a lap bar to hold you in place.
The thrills that Vortex delivers are in some ways very similar to that of Rush. The ride consists of a pendulum that swings backwards and forwards giving a sense of air time at the top of each swing.
At the end of the pendulum are a number of arms each with 5 seats at the end where riders sit, creating a circular shape. The circle of seats also rotates so on one swing you may be going sideways, back wards forwards or any other way you can think of.
You may remember the days when Samurai first opened at Chessington World of Adventures, I certainly do and I remember that it was one of the most thrilling rides around. Unfortunately when it moved to Thorpe
Park it somehow lost some of the amazing thrill that it gave and has never been quite the same since. It could be that its surrounded by much better rides, or it could be that something really did happen but either way the glory days of Samurai seem to have passed. Luckily though things aren't to bad and the ride is still worth going on if you want to be spun in
every direction possible.
If air time is what your looking for then this is the ride to give it to you. Quantum is a Magic Carpet ride where you sit on a level platform that is swung up and down, staying level to whole time. So as
you can probably guess, on each swing down it moves a lot faster than you do and some amazing air time is produced.
